DAY 1 — U.S./Halifax, Nova Scotia/Embark
Arrive in Halifax, a lively and colorful combination of urban and rural living, set on the scenic shores of the world’s second largest natural harbor. Embark National Geographic Explorer along the historic downtown waterfront area. (D)

DAY 2 — Brier Island & Bay of Fundy
This morning we explore Brier Island Nature Preserve. With craggy shores, hidden coves, very few roads and cliff-top trails, it is an out-of-the-way gem. Then we cruise the Bay of Fundy, known for the highest tides in the world, up to 50 feet high. The waters of the bay are populated with an abundance of whales, dolphins and porpoises. (B,L,D)

DAY 3 — Camden, Maine
Nestled around a sheltered harbor, Camden is the quintessential New England seaside village, often called “the prettiest harbor in the country.” Walk around its charming center and spot seals in the harbor. (B,L,D)

DAY 4 — Cape Cod Canal & Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts
Spanning 540 feet, Cape Cod Canal is one of the widest canals in the world. Transit this engineering feat and spend the day at Martha’s Vineyard, exploring one of the six island towns, or walking along the pristine shores. (B,L,D)

DAY 5 — New York City
We make a thrilling approach to New York City this morning, seeing the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline from the decks of National Geographic Explorer. After soaking up the views, the day will be spent in the city with a world of options, ending at Lindblad’s “home port” office in West Greenwich Village, where we’ll enjoy a reception with stunning views from the rooftop deck. (B,L,D)

DAY 6 — At Sea (B,L,D)

DAY 7 — Washington D.C. & Chesapeake Bay
We spend today in the Washington D.C. and Chesapeake Bay region. Because of our strong alliance with the National Geographic Society, and since D.C. is their headquarters, we’ll be given an “insider’s view” into this globally important organization. Equally inspiring, the Smithsonian Institution will host us for a unique visit to their world renowned institution. Our reception this evening will be a most memorable event. (B,L,D)

DAY 8 — Yorktown & Jamestown, Virginia
Founded as the first successful colonial settlement in North America in 1607, what is now known as Historic Jamestown represents our colonial past. Nearby Yorktown hosts the site of the final major battle of the American Revolutionary War. Visit both sites today to discover the humble beginning and dramatic ending of colonialism in North America. (B,L,D)

DAY 9 — Cape Lookout National Seashore, North Carolina
Be on deck as we approach Cape Lookout National Seashore. Explore the windswept beaches, coastal habitat and islets of this national treasure. Its iconic black and white lighthouse provides a perfect backdrop for exploration. (B,L,D)

DAY 10 — Charleston, South Carolina
On April 12, 1861, Confederate forces opened fire on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, marking the beginning of the American Civil War. On arrival in Charleston, visit this significant historic site. Later, we explore the history, traditions and southern culture of Charleston, where much of the downtown area has been beautifully preserved and designated as a historic district. (B,L,D)

DAY 11 — Cumberland Island & Fernandina Beach
Arrive at Cumberland Island, Georgia’s largest and southernmost barrier island. Discover sweeping views of the Atlantic, live oak and palmetto forests, marshes, wild horses and other wildlife. This island was also the winter playground for wealthy 18th-century industrialists the Carnegies, where their mansions are a reminder of a bygone era. Later, we dock in Fernandina Beach, stroll the quaint streets and explore the local history. (B,L,D)

DAY 12 — At Sea
A relaxing day is spent cruising along the Florida coast, watching for marine life and hearing talks from our staff, bringing to summary the colossal scope of this voyage along the Atlantic coastline. (B,L,D)

DAY 13 — Miami/Disembark/Home
