Winnipeg – Gateway to the Canadian West
Rising from the shores of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, Winnipeg is the capital and largest city in the province of Manitoba. The city’s rich architecture, brick warehouses and rail depots reflect its importance as a historic supply center. A 1920s boomtown, Winnipeg is a vibrant Canadian cultural center with its many art galleries, museums and The Forks market. It is here you’ll meet your traveling companions for a welcome dinner.
The next morning, take a scenic ride by motorcoach to Thompson, where we’ll board Canada’s VIA Rail to Churchill. Built in 1929, it took over 3,000 men to lay the 1,000 miles of rail track between Winnipeg and Churchill.
Tundra Bus – The Best Way to See the
Best Show on Earth
With large, overinflated tires, the tundra vehicles are designed to safely travel over the fragile ecosystem. Our warm, self-contained tundra bus takes us out onto the tundra to view these magnificent beasts, some just a few feet away from our window. Invented and perfected in Churchill, the tundra buses let you get within a few feet of the bears and be completely safe, secure and comfortable! Vehicles are well-heated with onboard washroom facilities and large viewing windows, plus a special open-air observation platform for watching the bears. Have your cameras ready!
Lazy Bear Lodge – Your Warm,
Comfortable Home in Churchill
Rustic and charming, the Lazy Bear Lodge is an elegant, handcrafted log building providing warm, comfortable accommodations. The newest in Churchill, the Lazy Bear Lodge is smoke-free and family-run, bringing you the best in personal service and quality amenities. Churchill – Discover the Polar Bear
Capital of the World
Established as a grain port in the early 1700s, the frontier town of Churchill is home to the world’s southernmost population of polar bears. These magnificent creatures, the monarch of the Arctic, tip the scales at over 1300 pounds and can stand some 10 feet tall. Anticipating the winter freeze, polar bears congregate along the coast beginning in October to return to the seal-rich feeding grounds on the ice flows of Hudson Bay. Watch as they search for food, play and roughhouse as they have for centuries. Tours are led by experienced driver-guides whose years of hands-on experience in the Churchill region provide an insightful narration. In your hunt for wildlife, you may also sight arctic foxes, arctic hares, caribou, ringed seals and the beautiful willow ptarmigan.
Get an awe-inspiring look at the greatest wildlife viewing spectacles on Earth. For those who hear the “call of the wild,” join us for this once in a lifetime experience!
